NW Report February-March 2009

13 February: - MAG Board Meeting

I attended the MAG UK board meeting, minutes available on MAG UK web-site. http://www.mag-uk.org

14th February: - Attended NC Meeting

NC Meeting attended on the Saturday, minutes available on MAG UK web-site. http://www.mag-uk.org

14th February: - Blackpool MAG Valentines Massacre, Blackpool RUFC.

Helped organise and run Blackpool MAG’s Valentines Massacre Rock night. This was a trial event to see how the new clubhouse and bar facilities would cope with a large crowd of thirsty bikers. It highlighted a few issues that we will have to address before the main rally later in the year. The night was a great success however raising over £100 for MAG.

7th March: - First Bike on the scene course, Thornton-in-Clevelys, Fylde.

I organised this course with the assistance of members of Blackpool MAG through a friend of mine who is a trained instructor, and MAG member. He has developed this course and is one of seven approved courses to be recognised by the HSE. Everyone attending the course thought it was excellent and a future one is being planned.

10th March: -  Rally Meeting at Blue Anchor, Weeton

We arranged a meeting at Blue Anchor Public House looking for an alternative venue for the summer rally. The venue was not suitable.

11th March: -  RideSafe BackSafe Police HQ, Hutton

Most of the meeting was taken up planning the RideSafe Rendezvous to be held in Blackpool on the 19th April. I gave a talk on the “First Bike on the Scene” course that I had been on and questioned the training of the first response officers in the region. I quoted statistics picked up from the course including a third of all bike fatalities could be avoided if correct first aid is administered. The whole point of the RSBS initiative is to reduce bike related fatalities. Members on the forum want to pursue this line of thinking further.

24th March: - Rally meeting Blackpool RUFC

We called a meeting with the committee of Blackpool RUFC to try and address some of the concerns we have with running the rally here. There will be a further meeting next month but it has now been decided to push ahead with it at this site and incorporate the reduced clubhouse size with a large tented area.
