NW Report June/July 2010

2nd-14th June –IOM TT Races

We ran the stall over three events again, the Streetfighter Challenge, Mooragh Promenade, Ramsey 6th June, Ramsey Sprint, Mooragh Promenade, 8th June and TT Motorcycle show, Laxey June 10th, at which we won the prize for best stall.

It was the most successful TT yet as far as memberships go. We distributed hundreds of old editions of the Road around the viewing points around the course, each one containing a membership leaflet. We got a few of these returned to the stall fully completed so the effort paid off. Managed to get an interview on Manx FM and got a few good plugs in for MAG.

24th-27th June Blackpool MAG Sixth Sinful Fun & Frolics Rally.

The weather was fantastic, sold out on the gate, made plenty for the fighting fund and also raised a small sum for the Afghan Heroes charity. Big thanks go out to all who helped out over the weekend.

11th July NW MAG Bike Show-Stanley Park, Blackpool

.           Third year we have run this show and this year we got the added support from Manchester HOG owners as well as Lancashire & South Lakes GWOC. The trophies were sponsored by local businesses and we rose over £100 for Afghan Heroes as well as picking up a few memberships on the day. This is the one event during the year that we do solely for a chosen charity but it serves as excellent public relations for MAG and the biking community in general. We did also manage to distribute plenty of MAG literature and got a write up in the Blackpool Gazette which mentioning MAG and what we are.

18th July Morecambe & District Bike Show, Morecambe

MAD MCC affiliated last year and have supported MAG in marshalling events throughout the year. We were glad to support their event again this year and picked up a few new memberships.

23-25th July MT Heads Rally, Rochdale

This was the first rally this club has run and it went very well. The MT Heads are MAG affiliated and we were asked to take the NW MAG stall to this event. Once again, a few memberships picked up over the weekend and plenty of leaflets and magazines distributed

25th July A Bike in the Park, Heaton Park, Manchester

This show was supported by Manchester MAG and the feedback I gto was very good. This was the second year this show was run and is organized by the same company that runs the Manchester National Bike Show

30-31st July St Johns Lodge, Windermere

My lovely wife, Ally, won us a weekend away up the lakes at this biker friendly B&B. Whilst we were there, I got talking to the owners about MAG and managed to persuade them into becoming MAG corporate members! They have also agreed to give MAG members 10% discount on their room prices

. I can thoroughly recommend this accommodation which has secure motorbike parking, with ground anchors and a lockable gate with a seven foot wall surrounding the parking. The only food they serve is breakfast, but there are 36 different ones to choose from, all included in the price. The quality of the food was excellent, as was many other aspects of our stay. The Lodge is situated about halfway between Windermere & Bowness, and a short walk from either location.

Other Business around the region

I have had to initiate some thorough investigations into the Blackpool MAG rally takings, which has resulted in a member no longer wanting to be involved with MAG as he felt that he was being accused of dishonest deeds. Friends of said member have also left the group, but this could also be to do with certain MCC politics which are causing problems around the Blackpool area. I believe my actions have been justified as most monies owing to MAG have now been recovered so I am regarding the matter closed. I am looking on the positive side of this as there are other MAG members in the area who are now more willing to get involved with the group now that this contingent has left.

Red Rose MAG are doing well as are Manchester MAG who have moved to new premises. Once again, I have a member in the Morecambe Area who is considering starting a group, but Liverpool and Wirral/Chester are still leaderless.

Finding it very difficult to keep up with all my MAG commitments and feel it may be time for a change.
