NW Report August/September 2010

13th August –MAG-UK Board meeting

I attended the Board meeting at the MAG’s new premises at Warwick, details at MAG UK web-site. http://www.mag-uk.org

14th August  MAG UK NC Meeting

. I attended the National Committee meeting, minutes available on MAG UK web-site. http://www.mag-uk.org

31st August-6th September Stormin’ the Castle

.           .I took a week off work to help out with the build up week and marshaling duties over the rally weekend. In my opinion, it was one of the best STCs yet with brilliant weather to boot.

Accrington Bike Show

This event was covered by Bill Green, Red Rose MAG Rep. From all accounts the event went wellwith favourable weather. It has become apparent though that our regional stall is in urgent need of attention which hopefully we can get sorted during the winter months.

17th -19th September Jesters Rally, Preston

Helped out with the running of this rally and ran the MAG stall from my van. We picked up a few members over the weekend and renewals, and distributed loads of literature.

3rd October Hercules Run Pilling-Carlisle

Once again I was asked by the organisers of this event if NW MAG could marshal this event. On the day, which was a very wet day, we got enough members from around the region to manage the event, which this year was raising money for Christies Hospital, Manchester.

I have picked up a few members directly from this event, and most of the organisers are now members, who attend the local meetings and support the MAG events by donating fabulous raffle prizes. MAG got a huge amount of praise this year for the professional way the run was marshalled. The run is 100+ miles of fantastic scenery terminating in a place of interest, which this year was Solway Aviation Museum.

Other Business around the region

Blackpool MAG has moved back to Uncle Tom’s Cabin for their regular meetings. They will be holding a Halloween Party at the end of the month to raise money for the “Fighting Fund”.

The NW AGM is being held this year at the home of Red Rose MAG in Blackburn on Sunday 21st November, an observer for this has yet to be found.

Manchester MAG is still doing well with a good attendance at their meetings, which are now at a new location

Over the past few months I have been spending a lot of time getting the NW MAG site up to date and it is a steep learning curve as I am no web-master. I am uploading the regional reports onto the web-site, which is why I include all activities including my involvement with meetings at Central.

The RideSafe BackSafe scheme in Lancashire has taken a bit of a blow with a lot of the funding for it being withdrawn by Lancashire County Council. Merseyside Police have now got involved and the main hub of activity has been transferred to Liverpool, but meetings have been suspended for now.
