NW Report December-January 2013

8th-December: - National Committee meeting, Shrewley Village Hall

I attended the MAG NC meeting, minutes on www.mag-uk.org

16th December: - Coast Riders MCC Salvation Army Run

I and other MAG members road marshalled this event, delivering a consignment of clothes and food to the Salvation Army Centre in Blackpool to help them over the Christmas period. The run went well and we got a report with pictures in the local gazette, all good PR for MAG and biking in general.

11th-13th January: - Manchester Central Bike Show

A number of us took the new 6m x 3m stand to this event at the old G-MEX centre. We got an 8m x 3m pitch FOC as a contra deal, distributing leaflets around the region before the event. Over the weekend we took 27 new and renewed memberships over half of these via direct debit. The MAG stand was very popular partly due to the number of custom & classic bikes we had on there, all freely provided by dedicated members across the region. It was an exhausting but very rewarding weekend.

Other news from around the region

Things are very quite this time of year. All groups functioning well, though not much to report.

Manchester MAG still meeting regularly and heavily involved with the North Manchester Alliance and the British Legion Riders.

Blackpool MAG are busy talking to councils etc about the planned Birthday Rally Event. The group is attracting an increasing number of members to meetings which is encouraging. Struggled to find a bike parking spot for mine at last night’s! Many expired members who had left the flock are returning. I am getting them signed up on DDs so hoping for a better retention rate.

Wirral & Chester had their AGM last night with a good turnout. Gordon Wheatcroft was voted in as rep although he will not be available on meeting nights for a few months due to a training course he is on and so a suitable deputy has been found, details to follow.

Red Rose meetings are quite. Bill Green, the local rep has organised the 9th NW Fred Hill Run to take place on Sunday 10th February. Fingers crossed for good weather.

Lancaster & Morecambe Rep Kev Hyde has recently returned from holidays in Australia and is very keen to invigorate MAG in his area. I will be on-hand to assist where/when needed!
